Lewis County Awards Round 2 Façade and Streetscape
Improvement Funds to 10 Local Businesses and Municipalities

LEWIS COUNTY AWARDS $200,000 IN ROUND 2 FAÇADE AND
STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT FUNDS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES AND MUNICIPALITIES
Lowville, NY – Lewis County
Legislators allocated $200,000 in ARPA funds for the second round of the
Façade and Streetscape Improvement Program. After receiving 29 applications
for approximately $1,094,500 in requested project funds, ultimately, 10
projects were awarded funding for a variety of downtown façade and
streetscape improvements.
“These projects
will bring vibrancy back to our communities and will highlight their
historical charm,” said Ryan Piche, Lewis County Manager. “With the
successful projects completed from Round 1 of this program, I am confident
that these investments, along with our focus on placemaking, will have an
overwhelmingly positive impact on our County.”
Awards were made
to businesses and municipalities from the Hamlet of Harrisville to the
Hamlet of West Leyden. One of the funding recipients, Tyler Weese, recognizes that this program will allow his
building in Downtown Copenhagen to “act as a beacon” for locals and
tourists alike.
The following
projects, upon completion, will receive Round 2 Lewis County Façade and
Streetscape Improvement Funds (amount awarded to each project in
parenthesis):
Village of Constableville ($2,312.67) to purchase and
install benches and bike racks at the park on Church Street.
The Village Inn
($36,675.00) will replace front doors, sign lenses, windows, the
canopy roof and will install LP Smartsiding and
cultured stone on the storefront in the Hamlet of Harrisville.
Snow Belt Housing
Company ($4,050.00) will purchase and install a new sign, awning, and
lighting for their building in Downtown Lowville.
Shut the Front
Door, LLC ($7,875.00) will replace, repair, and repoint brick façade of
their building in Downtown Port Leyden.
The Croghan Free
Library ($5,625.00) will contract with a local artist to paint a mural on
the exterior wall of their building located in Downtown Croghan.
Crumbs. Bakeshop
($27,750.00) will replace the glass in the historical façade
windows, install new commercial doors and windows, add an ADA-compliant
sloped entrance, and add outdoor dining in Downtown Lowville.
Cedar Bridge
Properties, LLC ($33,579.33) will restore the first-floor commercial
façade by redesigning and replacing the storefront windows and doors in
their building in Downtown Lowville.
Tyler Weese ($75,525.00) will replace exterior windows,
repair damage to the brick façade and its cornice, and restore the
first-floor commercial storefronts in the Murphy Building in Downtown
Copenhagen.
Judge’s Quarters
($1.019.96) will purchase and install four historic replica
outdoor light fixtures and poles in Downtown Lowville.
Town of Lewis ($5,588.04)
will
install a commercial grade flagpole, two six-foot benches, and a granite
memorial marker to create a pocket park overlooking the Mohawk River in the
Hamlet of West Leyden.
Lewis County’s
downtown districts and public spaces hold central importance for community
gatherings, special events, and the success of small businesses. The Façade
and Streetscape Improvement Program aims to revitalize the historic
character and attractiveness of villages and hamlets in Lewis County
through public and private investment. To encourage and advance
revitalization efforts, this program provides 75/25 matching funds for
eligible improvements to mixed-use and commercial buildings and streetscape
enhancements in Lewis County’s villages and hamlets. Together, these
improvements will support business growth and retention, enhance tourism,
increase spending in the local economy, and reduce the number of blighted
and vacant properties.
