PHOTOS: County Agencies Place Pinwheel Displays at
Lowville Library and County Courthouse for Child Abuse Prevention Awareness

Lowville, NY- A group of Lewis
County agencies have set up blue pinwheel displays at a pair of locations
in Lowville, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness month.

The first
display, at the Lowville Free Library on Dayan St., includes 132 pinwheels
to represent the number of children interviewed by the Child Advocacy
Center as a result of a child abuse complaint during
2021.

A second display,
on the front lawn of the Lewis County Courthouse, includes 41 pinwheels to
represent the number of Lewis County children that were victims of founded
complaints of child abuse or maltreatment in 2021.
Employees from the
Lewis County Department of Social Services, Lewis County Opportunities, and
the Lewis County District Attorney’s office placed the pinwheels at the courthouse
on Tuesday afternoon, including Mary Interiano,
Santi Zehr, Reann
Evans, Calla Morrison, and DSS Commissioner Jenny Jones.
During the
Tuesday evening meeting of the Lewis County Board of Legislators, the below
proclamation was read declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness
month.
