Two Men Killed in
a Fatal Snowmobile Crash in the Town of Montague, Lewis County

PRESS RELEASE

On March 4, 2022,
at 12:45 a.m., the New York State Police were dispatched to a snowmobile
collision on Rector Road (Trail C5B) in the Town of Montague.
The investigation
revealed that a2016 Polaris snowmobile, operated
by Charles C. Eldred Jr., age 44 from Canandaigua, NY was
traveling eastbound and a 2012 Polaris snowmobile, operated by Nicholas
J. Klym, age 64 from Barnegat, NJ, was
traveling westbound when both snowmobiles collided head-on. Both
operators were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary
investigation suggests that Klym failed to keep
right at the crest of a small hill where the crash occurred. The
investigation is continuing.
State Police were
assisted at the scene by the Martinsburg Fire Department.
