Notice to Pistol Permit
Holders: The State Police is sending emails to permit holders who are due
for recertification. We have received many inquiries about the emails, and
they are legitimate. For more information about pistol permit

Dear New York
State Pistol / Revolver License Holder:
New York State
(NYS) firearms laws require pistol / revolver license holders to recertify
their status every five years. Failure to recertify within the five-year
deadline will result in the revocation of your pistol / revolver
license. As part of the recertification process, you, as a pistol /
revolver license holder, are required to confirm certain information such
as your name, the current address of your residence, your date of birth,
and a list of all pistols and revolvers you currently possess, including
the associated make, model, caliber, and serial number(s). New
York State residents will need to have a New York State Driver License
or Non-Driver Identification Card in order to
complete the recertification process. Out of state residents
who do not possess either a New York State Driver License or Non-Driver
Identification Card must attach a copy of their driver license or
non-driver identification from their state of issuance.
How to Recertify
New York State
residents can recertify their pistol / revolver license electronically by
visiting https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/ and
following the instructions on that web page. New York State residents
can also recertify through the U.S. mail by filling out a paper form
(available at https://troopers.ny.gov/Firearms/ or any New
York State Police location) and then mailing the completed form to New York
State Police, Pistol Permit Bureau, Building 22, 1220 Washington Avenue,
Albany, New York 12226-2252. Out of state residents who do not
possess either a New York State Driver License or Non-Driver Identification
Card must use the paper form to recertify.
When to Recertify
You are receiving
this letter because our records indicate that you are due to recertify your
pistol / revolver license in 2022. The deadline to recertify is based
on the date that you were originally issued your pistol / revolver license
or the date of your most recent recertification. As a pistol /
revolver license holder, it is your responsibility to complete the
recertification process within the five-year deadline in
order to comply with the law.

submitted recertification forms can be quickly checked by visiting https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/.
