Greig Man Accused of Menacing American Legions
Patrons with Knife in Oneida County

According to
Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, a Town of
Greig man was arrested on multiple charges stemming from an incident that
occurred on March 19, 2022, in the Town of Western.
Wayne Ernst, 54,
has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (Class D Felony)
and Menacing 2nd (Class A Misdemeanor) after he allegedly menaced patrons
at the Western Memorial Post 1846 with a knife. Ernst fled the scene that
day and was taken into custody by members of the Lewis County Sheriff’s
Office on March 20, 2022, after a vehicle pursuit that resulted in Ernst
crashing his vehicle into a tree.
Ernst was issued
multiple Uniform Traffic Tickets returnable to Lewis County at a later date. Custody of Ernst was then transferred
to members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Ernst was subsequently booked
and processed at the Deputy Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and
brought to the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await CAP Court
arraignment.
