Vote for JCC’s Mascot,
Boomer T. Cannoneer, in the SUNY Mascot Madness Contest
Beginning March 22
Jefferson Community College (JCC) is
seeking community support for its mascot, Boomer T. Cannoneer, in the State
University of New York (SUNY) “Mascot Madness” competition which will
determine New York State’s favorite SUNY mascot. In its inaugural year in
2021, Boomer made it to the final round beating Hudson Valley Community
College’s “Victor Viking,” Stony Brook University’s “Wolfie
the SeaWolf,” Fulton Montgomery Community
College’s “Reggie Raider,” and 2019’s Champion, “Rip Van Winkle” from
Columbia Greene Community College. Let’s do it again and this year, claim
the title!
Fans/supporters,
JCC alumni, students, faculty and staff, and members of the community
(everyone!) are urged to cast a vote for Boomer once a day at www.suny.edu/mascotmadness.
A confirmation step via email address submits each vote. The bracket-style
friendly mascot competition begins March 22, 2022
with 32 college mascots randomly divided into four SUNY regions and ranked
by the number of athletics teams each mascot represents.
Boomer, a bald
eagle in a military cannoneer uniform, was “hatched” in February 2021 and
began his “rookie year” at JCC. Boomer has appeared at various community
events such as the Jefferson County Dairy Parade, Watertown Rapids’ home
games and on JCC’s social media accounts.
The winner of the
SUNY Mascot Contest will be announced in April 2022. Check JCC’s
website, www.sunyjefferson.edu,
for announcements and/or follow the College on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
and TikTok.
Thank you to all
who have supported Boomer so far. Let’s help Boomer bring the title to
Watertown and JCC!
