CCE’s Annual Hay and Pasture School Scheduled for
March 17th and 24th

Annual Hay and Pasture School Coming Up
Cornell
Cooperative Extension will hold their annual Hay and Pasture School on two
nights, Thursdays March 17th and 24th. The sessions will be presented as
on-line webinars from 7:00-9:00 pm each night. Part 1 on March 17th will
cover some basics of pasture management. Kitty O’Neil, Soil and Field Crop
Specialist on the North Country Regional Ag Team, will talk about grazing
from a plant’s perspective. Trish LaValley form
the Franklin County NRCS will follow with how to build a pasture plan.
After that, several CCE Educators will give some real-life examples of
pasture set-ups.
Part 2 on March
24th will dig deeper into hay and pasture management with Kitty O’Neil
talking about trouble spots, like golden rod patches, swampy areas, and
sacrifice areas. Jessica Williamson, from AGCO, will follow with a talk on
making good quality baleage. Current custom
rates, especially for haying will be updated by Justin Tucker from CCE
Franklin.
Many of our North
Country livestock farms depend on hay and pasture to feed their stock. Many
retired farmers still hay their fields and market the hay. Making good
