Troop D Commander
PRESS RELEASE

State Police is investigating an officer-involved
shooting that occurred on State Route 12 in the town of Trenton, Oneida
County.
On January 15, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., Troopers
on patrol were traveling northbound On State Route 12 in the village of
Boonville when they observed a pickup truck southbound traveling at a high rate
of speed and driving recklessly. Troopers made a u-turn
in an attempt to stop the vehicle. As troopers
began to catch up with the truck, they attempted to pull the vehicle over.
The driver refused to stop and continued south on Rt. 12.
Troopers attempted to stop the truck by driving ahead of
the vehicle when the driver struck the passenger’s side of the marked
patrol vehicle and entered a parking area on the south side of the roadway
just north of Plank Road in the town of Trenton. As Troopers exited their
patrol vehicle, the driver ignored verbal commands and drove the truck in
the direction of the Troopers, who then discharged their division-issued
sidearm. The suspect then drove south on Rt 12 and came to a stop
approximately one mile south and surrendered without further incident.
The suspect was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital
in Utica, where he was treated for a single gunshot wound to his forearm
and released back into State Police custody.
The investigation is continuing, and charges against the
suspect are pending.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oneida
County Sheriff’s Office and the Barneveld Fire Department.
