Jefferson County Sheriff's Office: Child Abuse Arrest

On November 27, 2021, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the West Carthage Police Department initiated an investigation into a third-party complaint of child abuse, occurring on Potter Street, Village of West Carthage, involving a 9-month-old infant. Investigation revealed the infant had suffered severe burns on a substantial portion of her body. Due to the severity of the wounds, Carthage Area Rescue Squad transferred the infant to Upstate University Hospital where she was treated by medical staff and burn specialists in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Further investigation led to the discovery that the injuries were not accidental as initially claimed by the parents, Noah and Kaysie Riewaldt, who also failed to seek medical attention for the potentially life-threatening injuries.

Today, Noah Riewaldt (21) was charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree (D Felony), Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree (D Felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor). Kaysie Riewaldt (22) was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree (D Felony), as well as Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor).

Both defendants were arraigned at the Jefferson County CAP Court, where Noah Riewaldt was remanded to the Jefferson County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. Kaysie Riewaldt was given a pre-trial release and ordered to report to Probation.

The investigation is still currently ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming.
