Lewis County- Residents throughout Lewis County took advantage of the beautiful election day weather as they cast their votes today, With a number of important contested county wide races for Sheriff, District Attorney and County Clerk, turnout seemed to be brisk, with around 7,150 total ballots cast. Incumbent candidates for District Attorney and Sheriff both were re-elected with Leanne Moser defeating Lydia Young 55% to 45% in the D.A. race, while Michael Carpinelli handily held off challenger and long time deputy Todd Galarneau 63% to 37%. In the race to replace retiring County Clerk Douglas Hanno, Linda Hoskins has won the position by defeating Penny Demo 60% to 40%. There were three contested races among the ten county legislator seats up for grabs. In District 2, legislator chairman Michael A. Tabolt holds a slight lead over challenger Randall LaChausse by a vote of 334 - 323, in a race too close to call with absentee ballots outstanding. Election officials said there were 520 absentee ballots issued in the county, with 385 returned so far. Any ballots post marked by today will be counted with the others on next Tuesday, November 10th. In District 6 incumbent legislator Andrea Moroughan defeated Paul Stanford 467 - 241 and in District 7 legislator Greg Kulzer defeated challenger C. Lee Hinkleman by a vote of 453 - 224. Some notes on other local races include Darrell Seymour defeating incumbent Carl Pierce in the Town of Diana Highway Superintendent race 60% to 40%, as well as a new Town Supervisor in Turin with Joanne D'Ambrosi winning 77% of the vote to Julia Ielfield's 23% to replace Gerald Reed Jr. Here is a look at all of the county unofficial results as received from the Lewis County Board of Elections: (Note that election officials say there were 520 absentee ballots issued with 385 returned so far.
