Lowville- Lewis County held the fourth annual National Night Out event at the fairgrounds in Lowville on Friday evening. The event, which took place from 6 PM through 8 PM was well attended by many members of the community. "National Night Out is an evening designed to strengthen both neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships," Penny Demo, director of the Lewis County Youth Bureau, who organized the event, told us. "Thank you to our community for coming together for this important event," she continued. The evening started with an opening ceremony where a proclamation was read by Lewis County Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Tabolt. A local Boy Scout troop led the Pledge of Allegiance, and an opening prayer was said by Beth Monnat. The ceremony also recognized three organizations for their work in prevention awareness programs. Undersheriff Jim Monnat, who started the presentation, said it was hard to choose just three because there are so many deserving organizations in the county that perform prevention awareness programs. The Lowville Village Police Department was recognized for the processing of SAFE Child ID Cards. Over 500 of the cards were made at the Lewis County Fair this year. The Northern Regional Center for Independent Living received recognition for its Disabilities Rights and Resource Center. The third agency recognized was the Lewis County Opportunities, Inc. for its Victims Services Department. Each organization received a plaque. "I would like to thank all the prevention awareness vendors, law enforcement agencies and all the individuals that attended the 4th Annual 2015 National Night Out event," Ms. Demo said. "I would also like to congratulate the three prevention awareness programs that were recognized and honored at the event." The evening included free hot dogs, chips, soda and water, with Doug Lamont's Food Fair on hand. There were balloon animals and face painting available for the children in attendance. They were also able to tour a medi-vac helicopter. Many area prevention awareness programs were on site with informational materials. A demonstration by New York State Police K-9 Mandin and his handler Trooper Mark A. Bender drew a large crowd and much applause from the audience. Below are a few pictures.
