Lowville- A week after the primary election held last Thursday, absentee ballots were counted today, deciding the too close to call Lewis County Clerk race for both the Republican and Conservative lines on the November 3rd ballot. Candidates Penny Demo and Linda Hoskins found themselves in a tie on the Conservative line after election night with 21 votes each. After the four absentee ballots were added in, the race remained tied with a final vote of 23 - 23. The candidate to represent the Conservative line in November will be decided by party officials who will use a process in place for deciding a tie. Ms. Hoskins was holding a 68 vote lead, 1006 - 938, after election night for the Republican line, with 121 absentee ballots to be counted. After the count today Ms. Hoskins has pulled out the win with a final vote of 1057 - 1003. This result is currently unofficial as election officials are double checking all votes were reported correctly. "I would like to thank everyone who voted in the primary," Ms. Hoskins told us. "I will continue to get out and talk to the voters and assure them that I am the "Best IDEA" for the next Lewis County Clerk," she continued. "With my integrity, dedication, experience and ability I will work hard for the people in Lewis County!," she concluded. Ms. Demo will appear on the November ballot on the Independence and Key to Success party lines. "I'd like to congratulate Linda for earning the Republican endorsement," Ms. Demo said by phone. "I'm getting my comfortable shoes on, because I'm ready to continue on in the general election with the Independence Party endorsement, and my independent Key to Success Party," Ms. Demo continued. "I feel strongly I could do so much for our county in the position of County Clerk. I wish to thank all of my supporters and would appreciate their vote again on November 3rd." she said. In other results, the final vote for the Republican line for Town of Croghan Justice, which was too close to call on election night, has Carrol Monnat with 156 votes and Kevin O'Neill with 142 votes edging out Duane McEtheran who had 135 votes. The top two moved on. The remaining race too close to call on election night was for Town of Lowville Councilperson. After the absentee count Al Millard has 327 votes, Ruth Laribee has 275 and Stephen Farney has 237. The top two moved on to November.
Corrected last name of Mr. McEtheran and Ms. Laribee, which had been misspelled due to an editing error. |
