Indian River- A small church built in honor of a cancer victim was dedicated in the Town of Croghan hamlet of Indian River today. The church, just south of the Texas Road on Route 812, was built by Wayne Arnold in honor of Jeannie Goldthrite Gadbow. It is available for all to use twenty-four hours a day, everyday. Mr. Arnold bought the piece of land across from his house at about the same time his friend Jeannie found out she had cancer for the fourth time. He would visit her and she'd ask what he was going to do with that land. He told her he was logging it off right now and clearing it and didn't know if he was going to do anything with it. The land is across from his house. Jeannie kept saying he should do something with it and he saw that wheelers and snowmobilers were always stopping on the corner there, waiting for others to meet up with them, so he said he thought he was going to build a pavilion so they would have a place to sit down and get in out of the weather. The next time he saw Jeannie she told him she wanted him to build a church that anyone can use to go in and pray. He promised her he would. Although Jeannie passed before the church was completed, Mr. Arnold kept his promise of building Jeannie's church. People donated materials and benches and wind chimes that sound like church bells. People brought dishes to share, and there was music. Everyone had a nice time visiting and listening to music and a few prayers were said. |
