Lowville, NY- The Village of Lowville Board of Trustees approved a plan to
begin construction of a 24" sewer pipe running directly from the Kraft Heinz
plant on Utica Blvd., to the village's sewer treatment plant on East State St., at
    a special meeting on Monday.

Highlander Construction, Inc., Memphis, NY, was awarded the contract to carry
out the work, scheduled to begin in late September with completion set for
sometime in December. Kraft Heinz had agreed to pick up the project cost of
installing the pipe, which is around $1.47 million total.

Kraft Heinz is undergoing a major expansion at its Lowville facility with the
addition of a string cheese line. Production at the plant is expected to
tremendously increase by mid-December, leaving village officials working on
solutions on how to handle the extra sewage treatment demands that will be
    placed on their aging system.

The village has also started a $1.44 million project to desludge the lagoons at
the sewer treatment plant to help improve capacity. After the desludging
officials plan to add high-efficiency turbo blowers and aeration equipment to
    better manage capacity.
