Lewis County Woman to Go "Over the Edge" For United Way
08/16/16 05:00pm
Lowville, NY- A Lewis County woman is set to go "Over the Edge" to help
raise funds for the Renee Beyer Foundation through the United Way of NNY.

Jaime Haggett, an Account Clerk at Lewis County Public Health, plans to
rappel down the Key Bank building in Watertown, on September 17th, as part
of the 95th anniversary celebration of the United Way of NNY. The fundraiser
seeks to have 95 "brave souls" go Over the Edge of the building, while raising
    funds for area nonprofit organizations.

"Anyone who knows me knows this isn't something I would normally do," Ms.
Haggett said. "I just felt it was a great way to give back to the community and
support a great cause," she continued.

Participants are required to raise $1,000 in donations in order to take part in
the event. Those donating can specify that their donation go to a particular
nonprofit group, county, or to be disbursed amongst all United Way of NNY
    partners.

"I'm asking for members of the community to help support a great foundation by
designating their donation to the Renee Beyer Fund," Ms. Haggett told us.

The Renee Beyer-United Way Fund was established in 2013 in memory of
Renee Beyer, a senior planner for Lewis County, who was tragically killed in an
April, 2013 car accident. Her devotion of her family, job and nonprofits in Lewis
    County was well known.

The fund was created by a $2,500 gift from the United Way of Northern New
York. An additional $10,000 was added as a challenge grant from the Northern
New York Community Foundation, which is managing the fund.

The sole purpose of the fund is to generate money to be used to support Lewis
County nonprofit partners of the United Way of Northern New York. The United
Way's Community Review team, made up of volunteers primarily from Lewis
County, will determine where funds will go annually.

Anyone interested in helping Ms. Haggett reach her goal to Go Over the Edge
can visit her page on the United Way of NNY website to make a secure
donation. Include the Renee Beyer Fund in the memo line to ensure the
donation is appropriated to the fund.

The United Way of NNY is still seeking additional participants to go Over the
Edge. For more information you can visit their website and launch your own
    campaign.
