in my head…only to roll over and check the numbers on the clock for the time, hoping to return to sleep for a longer period of time. The past few months have challenged my abilities to learn new things, be patient, crunch numbers in many different directions and seek solutions to the future of not only our Village of Lowville, but the entirety of Lewis County. I now find myself doing the math in regard to how many jobs were recently lost and how many more can be created with a possible Kraft Heinz expansion. With the initial hopes of adding to the current depth of employment, my thoughts have now turned to trying to keep the same number of employment opportunities in our community. We continue to discuss options of a solution to complete upgrades, focusing on our sewer system, with Kraft Heinz and individuals involved in New York State Government. These decisions continue to take more time than I would like, yet we are certainly doing our ‘due diligence’ in reviewing and understanding any ideas presented to us. As if these numbers were not enough to keep an individual’s mind occupied, we continue to seek further grant funding for proposed drinking water lines included in these projects (due April 15th) and have a budget to pass by the end of the month! Our April 6th board meeting will begin promptly at 5 pm. This is not only an organizational meeting (determining who will continue in positions such as Village Historian, Deputy Judge and Health Officer), it will also be the first time that we, as a full board, review our proposed budget for the next year. This budget will be in effect from June 2015-May 2016. We did have a public hearing at our last board meeting in regard to the 2% tax cap, with the paperwork in place should we need to override this law, yet this has not been passed to date. It is our hope that we will not be required to do so. Since it has been a while since my last article, I wish to also inform you of a few changes. Our Village Codes are now on-line! This is the most updated version of our entire Village Laws and Building Codes. We have also added the option of paying your tax and water bills on-line or in the office with a credit card! Paying this way requires that you will also be responsible for the fee associated with this transaction, yet this change has been made for your convenience. Check out our web-site for these new changes. Spring clean up of weather related debris will happen through May 20th.
