Media Release 3/9/2016: LCSR and Croghan Ambulance Merger

In the spring of 2015 the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department began looking at
the viability of maintaining EMS in their agency. Falling numbers of EMT’s and
rising call volume did not take them long to realize that they would soon be in
    over their heads.

The Croghan Fire Department has had a great reputation on having a crew
available and able to respond in a timely manner. They want to be fair to their
taxpayers and themselves, therefore they began to look hard into their future in
    the EMS business.

In late summer of 2015 casual talks with Lewis County Search and Rescue
began leading to more formal talks between the two agencies. These talks
began leading into Lewis County Search and Rescue absorbing Croghan’s
ambulance and their response area. All talks have been very productive and
very cordial. The two agencies have always had a great relationship. This is by
no means a hostile takeover but rather a mutual agreement among the two
    agencies.

Effective at 6 AM on April 3rd, 2016 Lewis County Search & Rescue will begin
EMS coverage for the portions of the towns of Croghan and New Bremen that
currently the Croghan Fire Department ambulance covers. The Croghan Fire
Department is allowing Lewis County Search & Rescue to house an ambulance
at their fire station. This ambulance will be a paramedic level ambulance and
will be staffed by a combination of volunteers and career staff.

Lewis County Search & Rescue will operate out of two locations. The current,
one on west State Street in Lowville and then the Croghan Fire station. Both
agencies are working to make the transition a smooth process and assure no
lapse of coverage will take place. We thank you all for your attention in this
matter and look forward to working together.

We would like to invite everyone to a reception at the Croghan fire station on
April 3rd at 1pm. Come out and see the fire station and talk with
representatives from both the Croghan Fire Department and Lewis County
    Search and Rescue.
