Lowville- The Lewis County Board of Legislators held their regular monthly
meeting here last evening, with a number of resolutions up for discussion.
The following recaps some of the highlights from the meeting:
- Cheryl Shenkle-O'neill, executive director at Snow Belt Housing, presented
the board with final details of the $200,000 first time home buyer funds
approved in 2014 and now ending. A total of seven people received
assistance through the program, which had been projected to assist five. A
new grant of $324,800 was recently awarded for the same program, with the
hopes to assist ten to fifteen individuals in this new round.
- The board approved passing 25% of any savings from the county's solar
project to the hospital, as after the hospital joined the project it increased the
project size by 25%.
- The board approved allowing the sheriff to hire one full time
dispatch/corrections officer and a jail physician.
- The board appointed Dennis Mastascusa of Lowville to the Developmental
Authority of the North County to be effective immediately for a term of four
years running through February 9th, 2020. The vote was 9-1 with legislator
Jerry King opposed.
- The board approved transferring $700,000 in funds to the County of Lewis
Industrial Development Agency (LCIDA), with no parameters attached to the
projects undertaken. The vote was 9-1 with legislator Greg Kulzer opposed.
- The board appointed Jared Thisse, of Glenfield, to the LCIDA board of
directors.The indefinite term is effective immediately.
- The board approved a sub-recipient agreement with Snow Belt Housing to
provide administrative and program delivery services for the $324,800 grant
for first time home buyers at an administrative cost of $44.800, payable
through the grant funds.
- Board Chairman Michael Tabolt recognized fellow board member Craig
Brennan for completing the New York State Association of Counties’ County
Government Institute, an educational program with Cornell University that is
designed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of county government
officials.
- The board is accepting nominations to fill a vacancy on the Hospital Board of
Managers after the resignation of Tim Reagan.
