Lady Knights' Bid for Sectional Championship in Basketball Falls Short in OT

Copenhagen's bid for yet another sectional championship in girls

athletics this season came up just short after the Lady Knights basketball team

was defeated by New York Mills in overtime in the Section III Class "D"

championship game played at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College

today.

The young team, with just three seniors on the roster, got off to a slow start that

saw No. 4 Copenhagen trailing No. 7 New York Mills 12-3 after the first quarter of

play and 22-13 at halftime, After some halftime adjustments, Coach Natalie Scott's

Copenhagen team opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run to tie the game at 24-

24. After a back and forth for the remainder of the half, Copenhagen ended up

tying the game again at 40-40 to end regulation. Overtime proved to be too much,

as the Lady Knights were outscored 14-5 in the period and were eventually

defeated by a score of 54 - 45, ending their memorable season.
