on Thursday afternoon, with the first order of business being the election of officers for the new year. Board member Dennis Lee was elected as chairman, while Dave Becker, who was not present, was elected to serve another term as vice chairman. The board then reviewed the amended site plan for the Kraft Heinz expansion project in the Village of Lowville, submitted by the Village of Lowville Planning Board. The expansion will include the demolition of 21,400 square feet of existing space on the Utica Boulevard plant's north end before a 75,848 square foot addition is built, resulting in a net gain of 54,448 square feet. Excel Engineering, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, has taken over the design and engineering of the project, replacing C & S Services of Syracuse. Excel has worked with multiple cheese plant designs in the past and is very familiar with this type of project. The expansion would provide room for a string cheese line at the plant, as well as an additional milk bay and room for new two-pack equipment. An additional 150 jobs could be added when the project is completed. "This is a very impressive project," County Planning Director Frank Pace told the board. The original plan for a two story addition was modified to a single story, to keep all production equipment on the same floor. While the plant currently averages about 20 milk trucks per day, the plan indicated that after completion of the project the plant could see up to 70 trucks per day. The board voted unanimously to approve the amended site plan, which will need final approval from the Village of Lowville Planning Board. Demolition is expected to begin soon, as project approval is not needed for the demolition process to begin. Construction is expected to take about one year to complete the project. In other business, Mr. Pace reported the following responses from municipalities regarding previously submitted projects:
