Multiple Reports of Trees and Wires Down Saturday
Evening Due to Wind with Thousands without Power

High winds are
causing issues across multiple locations in the county, with numerous
reports of trees and wires down. If you must be out tonight, please use
caution, as there are numerous reports of trees and wires in roadways. Fire
crews from Harrisville, Natural Bridge, New Bremen, Beaver Falls, Lowville
and Castorland have all been dispatched to
various locations for trees and wires down, many with multiple calls.
Natural Bridge and Harrisville are also on scene of a woodshed fire on
State Route 3, Near the 812 intersection. National Grid is reporting 2,255 customers
currently without power, as of 07:30 PM. 946 in the town of Watson, 766 in
the town of Diana, 171 in the town of New Bremen, 96 in the town of
Croghan, and various scattered outages. A High Wind Warning from the
National Weather Service remains in place until 1 AM.
UPDATE 7:50 PM: There are now
2,644 National Grid customers without power reported in the county. Croghan
and 3-G fire are also now added to the list of volunteer fire departments
that have been dispatched to calls of wires and trees down.
UPDATE: As of 8
PM,
National Grid is reporting 3,841 customers without power in Lewis County
due to the high winds. Significant outages by town(T)/village(V) include:

Lowville Fire has
established a command center at the Lowville Fire Hall to handle the high
volume of dispatches.
Constable fire
has now been dispatched for reports of trees and wires down.

08:35 PM, National Grid is reporting 6,214 customers without power in Lewis
County, as follows:

A tree has
reportedly fallen onto a house on the River Rd. in the town of Watson,
crashing into the living room. No injuries are reported
and the residents are being taken to the Lowville Fire Hall command center.
UPDATE (9:20 PM): It appears that
power outages in the county may have peaked at 6,765 at 9 PM. As of 9:20
PM, National Grid is reporting 6,022 of its 14,796 power customers in the
county are currently without power.
UPDATE (10 PM): Local first
responders continue to respond to multiple calls in the county for downed
trees and wires. Numerous roads are reported as impassable at this time. As
of 10 PM, National Grid is reporting that 5,217 customers in Lewis County
are currently without power, including the following larger outages: V/Castorland: 121; T/Croghan: 941; T/Denmark: 603;
T/Diana: Down to 24; T/Greig: 657; T/Lewis: 154; T/Lowville: 304;
V/Lowville: 208; T/New Bremen: 688; T/Osceola: 371; T/Watson: 1,060
UPDATE (10:15
PM): The Lewis County Sheriff's office has issued a NO UNNECESSARY
TRAVEL ADVISORY for ALL OF LEWIS COUNTY, beginning at 22:00 hrs (10 PM). "This means that travel should be at
a minimum due to: EXTREME HIGH WINDS, MULTIPLE TREES DOWN AND FIRST
RESPONDERS ARE SPREAD THIN THROUGH OUT THE COUNTY," a release from the
Sheriff's office states.
UPDATE (11:00
PM): As of 11 PM, National Grid is reporting 4,783 customers without
power in Lewis County, down from a peak of 6,675 at 9 PM. Remaining outages
include: V/Castorland: 121; T/Croghan: 941;
T/Denmark: 603; T/Greig: 703; T/Lowville: 305; V/Lowville: 208; T/New
Bremen: 688; T/Watson: 1,101.
Emergency
dispatchers continue to field calls reporting downed trees and wire in
various locations.
UPDATE (11:45
PM): Crews continue to clean up damage and work on power restoration
after high winds passed through the county earlier this evening. Calls to
emergency dispatchers seem to have calmed significantly over the last hour,
seeming to peak between 7:30 and 9:30 this evening. The High WInd Warning is set to expire at 1 AM. As of 11:45 PM
there are 5,307 National Grid customers reported to be without power. This
will be our last update of the evening, barring anything significant to
report.

Crews continue to
work on cleaning up downed trees and wires in various locations. A No
Unnecessary Travel Advisory in still in place for all of Lewis County,
issued by the Sheriff's Office.
