Lewis County Public Health Provides Legislative
Committee with Update on Vaccination Status of COVID Cases and Hospitalizations
for October

Lowville, NY- The Health &
Human Services committee of the Lewis County Board of Legislators received
a COVID-19 update during their meeting this afternoon from Lewis County
Public Health Deputy Director Anna Platz.
During the month
of October, 79 percent of the total number of new COVID-19 cases infecting
Lewis County residents were unvaccinated individuals. In terms of the
number of individuals hospitalized during October for COVID-19, 68 percent
were unvaccinated. The percentages “to date” for November, according to Ms.
Platz, show that 73 percent of the new cases are unvaccinated individuals
and 82 percent of those requiring hospitalization are unvaccinated.
The 7-day
positivity rate (percentage of new cases from total number of tests
performed) for Lewis County is 9.4 percent and the 14-day rate is 9.1
percent.
Ms. Platz noted
that 13,088 Lewis County residents have received at least one dose of a
vaccine, representing 64 percent of the population aged 18 or older.
Overall, 46 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated.
The committee was
also updated on a series of vaccination clinics Public Health is starting for
each of the five school districts in the county, with individuals 5 and
older now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
