5th Grader at Lowville Academy Receives Warm Welcome
Back to Lowville After Undergoing Surgery to Remove Brain Tumor

Lowville, NY- Elementary
students at Lowville Academy & Central School provided a warm welcome
back to town for a fellow classmate who underwent emergency surgery on
Sunday to remove a recently discovered brain tumor.
 Deacon Fuller, a 5th grade
student at the school, arrived at school on Friday a seemingly healthy boy,
his mother Cassandra tells us. Late Friday morning she was notified by the
school that her son was having an issue. After a trip to the local
emergency room, Deacon was transported to Upstate Medical in Syracuse where
a brain tumor was found. An emergency surgery was performed on Sunday to
remove the tumor, and amazingly Deacon was released from the hospital this
morning.
Upon hearing that
Deacon was on his way home, Lowville Academy arranged for a secret welcome
home “wave” for Deacon, with students lining the bus loop on State Street
to wave and welcome Deacon home with signs of encouragement as his family
detoured to drive through the loop on their way home from the hospital in
Syracuse. Deacon was surprised by the outpouring of support, as he didn’t
know his fellow schoolmates had planned to welcome him back home.
With a long
journey ahead, we wish Deacon the best of luck in his recovery!
