State Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Bailey's Auto Refinishing in Carthage

On August 16, 2021, at 7:26 a.m., State Police and the village of Carthage Police responded to a reported shooting incident that occurred at Bailey’s Auto Refinishing located at 789 West End Avenue in the village of Carthage, Jefferson County.

 

When patrols arrived, they interviewed 42-year-old Shannon M. Ayers who stated that he went to the body shop to speak with Randy Bailey and banged on the windows of the overhead doors to get his attention, when he saw Bailey shoot several gunshots at him through the garage windows.  Ayers hit the ground, started crawling and was injured when glass shards began falling out of the windows. He was treated at the scene and released.

 

Randy L. Bailey, age 44 from Carthage, NY was transported to Carthage Area Hospital and was pronounced deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

 

State Police were assisted at the scene by Carthage Village Police, Carthage Fire Department and the Carthage Area Rescue Squad.
