NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Announces He Will Step Aside
in 14 Days

New York, NY- New
York Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered live remarks shortly before noon
today, announcing that he will be stepping aside as governor in 14 days.
The resignation comes just over a week after NYS Attorney General Letitia
James issued a report announcing that independent
investigators had found that the governor had sexually harassed multiple
women in violation of state and federal law.
With Governor
Cuomo stepping aside, Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Hochul
will take over the governor’s office when the governor’s resignation takes
effect. She will become New York’s first female governor.
Governor Cuomo
continued to deny the most serious allegations in the Attorney General’s
report, calling the impeachment investigation against him “politically
motivated.” He said stepping aside was in the best interest of New Yorkers.
"This situation
by its current trajectory will generate months of political and legal
controversy. That is what is going to happen. That is how the political
wind is blowing. It will consume government. It will cost taxpayers
millions of dollars," Governor Cuomo said. "New York tough means
New York loving, and I love New York, and I love you. I would never want to
be unhelpful in any way." He went on to say that the best way he could
“be helpful” was to step aside and let “government get back to governing.”
