Covid-19 has
impacted routine health screenings over the last year. Many one- and
two-year-old children did not have a lead test performed and are now behind
in their routine screenings. Lead poisoning can cause developmental delays
and permanent physical disabilities, all of which are preventable with
early detection and management. We encourage you to take
action now to ensure your child’s lead level is not elevated.

Lewis County
Public Health is open for childhood lead screening by appointment. The
clinic is located in the basement of Lewis County
General Hospital, 7785 North State Street, Lowville. Appointments are
required and can be scheduled by calling (315) 376-5453. All children
who are due for routine lead testing are eligible for this quick and FREE
screening.
In our efforts to
slow the spread of Covid-19 and to protect the health and wellbeing of our
clients and staff members, Lewis County Public Health has implemented the
following requirements:
• Everyone over age 2 must wear a face
covering upon entering the hospital campus and throughout the duration of
their visit.
• Prompt arrival at the scheduled
appointment time.
• Only children being screened for lead
are allowed in the clinic, and only one adult may accompany them.
• Individuals will have their temperature
taken and be pre-screened for risk factors in the Public Health lobby upon
arrival for their appointment.
• Chairs in the waiting room will be
spaced 6 feet apart.
• All staff will wear
masks at all times while in the clinic setting.
If you/your child
are in quarantine due to a Covid-19 exposure, or are experiencing any of
the following symptoms, please call (315) 376-5453 to cancel and reschedule
your appointment for a later date:
• dry cough
• sore throat
• shortness of breath
• congestion or runny nose
• fever
• loss of taste or smell
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
