CCE Lewis Provides Results for Cattle, Horse and
Small Animal Shows at 200th Lewis County Fair

The following
press releases from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County provide
results for the Cattle, Horse and Small Animal shows at the 200th
Lewis County Fair held July 20-24, 2021.
A Continuation of
Traditions at This Year’s 200th Lewis County Fair: A Celebration
Of Generations
The two yearlong preparation for the 200th Lewis County Fair
definitely made it worthy of a blue ribbon. As many visitors of the fair
walked around and appreciated what was happening around them, a lot of the
important work put in goes unnoticed. The Lewis County Youth Exhibitors
enrolled in 4-H and FFA have spent countless hours feeding, grooming, and
practicing with their animals to prepare for the busy fair week. When
visitors walk through the Dairy Cattle Barn they
see a variety of well cared for livestock. What they do not see is the
exhibitors waking up each morning to start chores at the fair around 5:00
a.m.… or when the rooster crows! The exhibitors each morning wash, feed,
and lay new bedding for their animals; as well as prepare them for the show
that day. On top of taking excellent care of their animals, exhibitors are
judged on their appearance the days of the shows as well. The 4-H and FFA
members and their animals work as a team to try to win blue!
On Tuesday July
20th was the 4-H and FFA Cattle Show. The first part being
Showmanship: The Showmanship show is judged based on how well the exhibitor
presents the animal, and their self to the judge. Appearance and
cleanliness are very important. This year the 4-H and FFA showman results

Mooving on, Wednesday
July 21st was the 4-H and FFA Breed Class Show. Here the animal is judged
on the structure, and characteristics on how ideal it is to be a dairy cow.
The showman leads the animal through the show ring with the other animals
of the same breed, and stage of life. The results are as follows:

Youth Horse Exhibitors Show at The 200th
Lewis County Fair
The horse show at
the Lewis County Fair has always been a staple for generations. People from
all over would bring their best horses to win blue. Although we now have
cars and do not depend on them for transportation to and from fair, the
Horse Barn and shows are still full of excitement!
Trotting at the
fair Wednesday July 21st was the 4-H and FFA English/ Western Horse Show.
These shows consisted of showmanship and classes that allowed youth to
exemplify their unique trained skills on their horse.

Small Animal Exhibitors Win Big Prizes
The Small Animal
Barn at The Lewis County Fair has the most interesting animal shows to
watch. Unlike cows and horses 4-H Youth Exhibitors show their rabbits,
cavy’s, chickens, and goats. Some people might think of these as the
ordinary small pet, but they are very valuable to the show world.
Starting off the
eventful week on Tuesday July 20th we had our 4-H and FFA Poultry Show.
Here exhibitors showed off their best chickens and roosters. Results are as
follows:
