Historic 1826 Lowville Village Band Makes Music Again
with Concerts and Rehearsals in the Park
The Village of
Lowville and surrounding areas have had the great fortune to always have a
community concert band. Even the oldest amongst us will remember
concerts throughout the village presented by the Lowville Village Band. The
band played at various locations and nights throughout its long history
dating back to the early 1800’s.
Most recently,
the band has taken up residency at the Millard Chamberlain Band Stand in
Veterans Memorial Park. The band stand is named name after its long-time
conductor, band member, trombonist and retired LACS band director, Millard
Chamberlain. In fact, the band stand was built under his time as
director through efforts of band members, community support and donations.
Long time band
members and the community lost Millard this past year and we are so glad to
be able to perform in his honor this summer with an abbreviated concert
series.
For the past 20
plus years The Lowville Village Band has been a Wednesday night tradition,
with concerts being played at 7:00 PM. After over 150 years of
making music, The Lowville Village Band, like performing groups across the
world, was silenced due to the global pandemic, Covid-19.
The guidelines
and requirements for professional and school performing groups was very
strict; making it utterly impossible to “go on with the
show.” The lights of Broadway went dark, world renowned
Philharmonic Orchestra shut their doors and stop rehearsing.
The Lowville
Village Band is excited to have weathered the storm and is excited to take
up residency in Lowville once again. The members of the band are
excited to be practicing and making music once again. They have
two concerts planned at 7:00 PM on the Millard Chamberlain Band Stand in
Veterans Memorial Park. These will be held on Wednesday, July 28, and Wednesday,
August 4. The Village Band will also be rehearsing in the
park at 7:00 PM on Mondays, July 26 and August
2. These open rehearsals can also be attended by anyone who
would like to get out in the fresh air or bring the kids to the playground
for a fun night out. The public is cordially invited to join us
for the return of old-fashioned concerts in the park presented by the our very own Lowville Village Band.
