Croghan Lions Club Announces 2021 Citizens of the Year

CROGHAN LIONS TO HONOR 2021 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR

 

The Croghan Lions Club is proud to announce that Robert Williams and Cory Demo have been selected as their 2021 Citizens of the Year.  Both were chosen for consistently demonstrating the Lions Clubs International motto, “We Serve.”

 

Robert “Bob” Williams was a long time Social Studies teacher at Beaver River Central School, well known by countless students for his dedication, humor, and passionate support for Syracuse University basketball.  He and his wife Pam have hosted many exchange students and continue to maintain contacts with them.  He has served in the Beaver Falls Fire Department for over forty years and has been recognized with many awards, including “Outstanding Commissioner” in 2003.  He is a member of the Lowville Elks and recently has been very active as a bus driver for Lewis County General Hospital.  He has truly dedicated countless hours to serving the community as a teacher, role model, and friend.

 

Cory Demo has been selected as the 2021 Student Citizen of the Year.  Not only is he an exceptionally talented athlete and scholar he is a leader who has served as President of the Beaver River High School National Honor Society and Youth Advisory Council.  He is very active in his church, the Sons of the American Legion, fund raising events for people in need, and helping with Lions’ spaghetti dinners. He has been a lifeguard at the local town beach.  He was the recipient of the Lions academic scholarship in 2021 and will be attending the University of Buffalo in the fall.

 

The Croghan Lions Club’s “Jim Scanlon Citizens of the Year Banquet” will by held on September 25, 2021 at American Legion Post 1663 in Croghan, NY at 6:00 p.m.  Because no banquet could be held last year the 2020 Citizens of the Year, Janine Mattimore and Heather Puddington, will also be honored.  All family and friends are invited to attend.

Checks payable to the Croghan Lions Club for $20 per person should be mailed to:  Lion Marian Opela, 6814 Tillman Rd, Lowville, NY 13367 by September 14, 2021 and should include the names of all those attending the event.  There is no charge for children under the age of six.
