Lowville, NY- The Lewis County
Board of Legislators on Tuesday night approved the ratification of a new four-year
labor agreement with the Road Patrol bargaining unit, represented by the
United Public Service Employees Union.
Members of the
road patrol unit, which consists of 25 Sheriff's deputies- who have been
without a contract since January 1, ratified the agreement on June 10.
Lewis County
Director of Human Resources Caitlyn Smith says the agreement includes a
cumulative salary increase of 11% over the four-year life of the contract.
The contract, when signed, will run retroactive to January 1, 2021,
through December
31, 2024.
The deal includes
a 3% raise for 2021, retroactive to January 1. For 2022, the deal includes
a 3% salary increase, with a 3% increase for 2023
and a 2% increase for 2024, totaling 11% over the life of the contract.
The deal also
includes the creation of a new health insurance tier, with new members now
only eligible for the Lewis County Simply Blue Hybrid Plan or the Simply
Blue High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Additionally, the new deal eliminates
a dry-cleaning allowance that was previously paid to deputies bi-annually.
While an
agreement has been reached with the Road Patrol Unit, the remaining
bargaining units- both the CSEA Local 825 Sheriff’s Office Employees Unit
7250-03 and the CSEA Local 825 General Employees Unit, are currently
without active contacts, with the labor deals for both units also expiring on
December 31, 2020. Negotiations with both of those units are currently
ongoing. The General Employees Unit represents most county employees, excluding
those working at the hospital.
