Memorial Day Parade Scheduled for May 31^st in Lowville; Schedule of Cemetery Military Honors Announced

Memorial Day Parade and Military Honors

On Monday, May 31st starting at 11:00 AM the veterans of our community and a full military honor guard will have a parade through the Village of Lowville. Lowville Academy will not be marching this year, although we have reached out to some other schools. Marching drummers are needed.

The parade will start on River Street (across from Stewarts) this year and end at Veterans Park. A wreath will be placed at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and Veterans Park.

Following the parade, the VFW Commander will give a short address. We will then render Military honors to the deceased.

Memorial Day Schedule of Cemetery Military Honors

Military Honors to be rendered at the gravesites of veterans. The first will occur on Sunday, May 30^th. The joint American Legion, VFW, and Marine Corp League Honor Guard with leave from the Lowville Legion at 10 AM and travel to cemeteries in the following communities at the approximate times:

Sunday, May 30th

· Brantingham- 11:00 AM

· Sperryville- Noon

· Petries Corners- 12:30 PM

· Beaches Bridge- 1 PM

· Old Glendale- 1:30 PM

· Martinsburg- 2:00 PM

· West Martinsburg- 2:30 PM

· West Lowville- 3 PM and

· Hillside, State Route 26- at 3:30

(Times are subject to change)

On Monday, May 31st, the Color Guard will leave the post at 7:30 AM with the following stops scheduled at the approximate times:

· Wilcox Rd (near the sales barn)- 7:45 AM

· Reed cemetery, Phinney Rd.- 8 AM

· Lee Lumber, East Rd.- 8:15 AM

· East State St.- 8:30 AM

· River St.- 8:45 AM

· Jackson St.- 9:00 AM

· Upper Stowe St.- 9:15 AM

· Lowville Rural- 9:30 AM

Loved ones who have Veterans that have been laid to rest, are encouraged to attend this solemn ceremony. We provide full military honors to veterans set to rest at these cemeteries.

The American Legion is located at 5383 Dayan Street, Lowville. Due to Covid restrictions, the American Legion will NOT be having an open house this year. Members and Veterans only.
