Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility Temporarily Suspends Visitation

LOWVILLE, NY─ The Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility is suspending visitation on all four floors of the facility, effective today.

The closure is due to positive cases of scabies on the first floor of the facility.  Scabies is a skin mite that causes a rash and intense itching.  The condition is spread through skin-to-skin contact and treated with both topical creams and oral medications.

“All residents on the first floor were assessed, and fifteen residents and a staff member were diagnosed with the skin mite,” stated Debra Wurz, RHCF Administrator.  “Out of an abundance of caution due to the positive cases on the first floor and the possibility of exposure on other floors, we will begin treatment for all residents.”

According to Wurz, the floors will remain closed for in-person visitation until there are no positive cases in the facility to prevent any possible transmission to residents, staff, and visitors.

The suspended visitation does not impact the hospital or doctor offices at Lewis County Health System.
