Changes Made to Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Run in Lowville

Notice from Lowville Turkey Trot Coordinator Eric Virkler:

    2020 Lowville Turkey Trot

This has been a challenging year for running events as we all know. I imagine
everyone would like to get out for an official event. Yet we also need to continue
to be vigilant and stay healthy as we deal with covid 19.

With those thoughts in mind, there is a plan for the Lowville Turkey Trot,
sponsored by Double Play Community Center. Our event has always been very
low key, family friendly and more of a fun run than a race. The primary goal for
2020 is to provide an activity we can do on Thanksgiving Day, raise money for
the Renee Beyer United Way Memorial Fund and be healthy and smart. The plan
will thus provide an even more low key event to meet these goals.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, come to the Lowville Academy
Trinity Avenue parking lot between 7:30 and 9:30 AM. Arrive whenever is best for
you and your family. There will be no registration, no race numbers, no timing.
Every 15 minutes, starting at 7:30, runners can start to run or walk the regular
Turkey Trot 5 K loop. Go run the course on your own. When you are done, we
will not congregate, there will be no refreshments. Cool down and head home for
turkey dinner. We do have permission from LACS to use their parking lot.

The every 15 minute send off is intended to give you a little bit of a "race" feeling.
But you can also just start whenever you feel like it. The primary focus will be to
follow social distancing practices and not mingle in large groups. Bring a mask
and wear it when appropriate. We also ask that you be responsible in not
attending if you are under quarantine, if you have recently visited other states,
and please don't bring visitors from other states if they have not cleared NYS
    requirements.

One more item. There will be a box at the start line. We hope you will fill it up with
contributions for the Renee Beyer Memorial Fund. Double Play Community
Center has been actively raising money for this fund for many years and we can
make this the biggest year yet.

While this is definitely not the Turkey Trot we look forward to, it hopefully can be
a fun alternative that allows many local people to get out and run / walk your
Thanksgiving 5 K. We hope you will take advantage and come on out.
Remember, just arrive any time between 7:30 and 9:30 AM and go enjoy the run!!

    Sincerely,

    Eric Virkler
