Rome, NY- A court security officer, who works for the New York State Court
System at the Lewis County Courthouse, happened to be in the right place at the
right time on Sunday, while out for a run.

Josh Hardesty was out running along the Barge Canal in Rome Sunday morning,
when he was alerted to a fourteen-year-old male who had fallen through the ice
    while crossing the canal.

Josh's friend saw the incident happen and flagged Josh down to assist in helping
the teen from the water, while instructing family members to call 911. Josh
sprang into action, jumping into the icy water to bring the distressed teen to
shore and get him into dry clothes while awaiting first responders.

After first responders arrived the teen was evaluated and warmed with heating
pads, and has made a full recovery from the incident.

We spoke with Josh this afternoon about the incident, with our full interview
    included below.
