branch will be closing on May 24, with all accounts transferred to the Lowville branch. Customers received the notification via a letter, dated February 22, obtained by linkinglewiscounty.com and included at the end of this article. The news of KeyBank's closure in Croghan will leave the village without any physical bank branches. The following is a statement, provided to linkinglewiscounty.com, by Matthew Pitts, KeyBank's Regional Communications Manager for Western & Central New York: "Effective May 24, 2019, KeyBank is consolidating the following branch:
consolidate into the Lowville Branch located at 7647 North State Street Lowville, NY 13367 Clients do not need to take any action as their accounts will be automatically transferred to the receiving branch. Anytime we decide to consolidate a branch, we do so in a deliberate and thoughtful manner. This decision is based on client patterns in our branch network and our clients' ability to make transactions using other channels, including digital and mobile banking. In no way should this decision be perceived as a negative reflection on any community we serve or the performance of our employees. At KeyBank, like all businesses, we continually review the structure of our organization to maintain a strong position in the marketplace, to meet the specific needs of our clients, and to meet our business needs. In addition, clients are increasingly demanding digital and mobile products to allow them to bank when they want, where they want. KeyBank has made recent investments in mobile check deposit, mobile payment services like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay. We also recently partnered with Zelle, which allows our clients to easily and safely send money to friends and family." Mr. Pitts also noted that while the Lowville Branch is closest geographically, clients can use any KeyBank branch of their choosing following the consolidation. KeyBank also offers surcharge free ATM access at Rite Aid stores across New York State. "We are having individual conversations with employees about their specific situations and will place them in other positions if there is a fit," Mr. Pitts stated when asked what the plan is for employee's of the Croghan branch. "All are encouraged to apply for other open positions across the company and we will provide severance benefits, outplacement services and support in cases where employment with KeyBank does not continue past this consolidation." The KeyBank building in Croghan is owned by KeyBank, according to Mr. Pitts, and will be listed for sale after the consolidation. |
