Port Leyden, NY- Mayor Heather Collins had an exciting announcement to
share with those in attendance at the 'Lewis County Drug Addiction: It's Real &
It's Local' meeting on Thursday evening at the Port Leyden Fire Hall- a
community Youth & Wellness Center is being planned in the village.

The Center, which is still in the planning stage, would be located in the former
tattoo shop on W. Main St., next to the library. Mrs. Collins said the father and
son team that owns the building, Daryl and Jason Hartley, have agreed to allow
rent free use of the building if the group pays the yearly property and school
taxes- estimated at approximately $4,500 per year. Double Play Community
Center in Lowville would partner with the group on the Center and provide the
    necessary insurance, Mrs. Collins said.

A lot of work needs to be done to get the Center up and running, and Mayor
Collins is asking residents to do what they can to help. She would like to see
the Center open as soon as possible. A list of needs is included below. You
can contact Mayor Collins at 315-348-8613 if you would like to help out.
Donations for the Community Youth and Wellness Center can be sent to It's
Real and It's Local, PO Box 232, Port Leyden, NY 13433.
