Croghan- Since opening their doors with a unique new service to the community
    on March 23, the Croghan Adult Care Facility has had a lot to celebrate recently.

    For anyone unaware of what the facility offers, it has an array of services ranging
    from hourly adult day care and social programs to overnight and hourly respite,
    as well as shower services and more. The facility was issued a permit for a
    maximum occupancy of 27 participants in the adult day program. Hourly and
    Evening/Overnight  respite services have an 8 bed capacity.

    Croghan Adult Care Facility has an operating certificate from NYSADS- New
    York State Adult Day Services, Compliance Certification with OMIG for Social
    Adult Day Program (adult day care),and a Certificate of Occupancy From Lewis
    County Building Codes and Fire Inspection. The facility currently has been
    credentialed by insurance contracts with Fidelus Care and VNA Homecare
    Options. These contracts give program participants the option of coming to
    Croghan Adult Care Facility with NO out of pocket expenses if you have one of
    the listed insurance contracts.

    We had a chance to speak with Bethany Hughes, Executive Director of the
    facility, who took the time to answer some of our questions.

    "We provide a structured environment promoting socialization, nutrition,
    supervision, and lastly we promote our physical environment and safety," Ms.
    Hughes stated when asked what can be expected when a families loved one is
    left in their care. "This   includes social, intellectual, cultural, educational, and
    physical group activities; encourage and stimulate the participant to interact with
    others and seeks the participant's sense of usefulness to self and others, the
    desire to use his or her physical and mental capabilities to the fullest extent, and
    his or her sense of self-respect," she continued.

    "This can be done in many ways, offering a variety of activities to the members,
    giving them freedom to choose, honoring their rights and treating them just like
    our family while maintaining a happy and safe environment for all!," she added.
    Some examples given of the choices made by members include fishing, painting,
    nails, cards, ice-cream, helping with the garden, Dunkin Donuts, taking a nap,
    learning about medication, and sitting on the porch because the fresh air is
    amazing.

    Recently the facility received accreditation from the Better Business Bureau
    (BBB). After investigating the business the BBB found the facility to meet the
    criteria of integrity, honesty, trust and professionalism. A rating of A- was given,
    with the minus only due to the length of time being opened. The facility proudly
    has the plaque they received hanging on their wall.

    "It’s my hope that our community members will see this and acknowledge that we
    are here to give quality service and the utmost professionalism," Ms. Hughes
    said.

    Since opening, the staff at Croghan Adult Care Facility have also been active in
    community projects. The facility has a community garden in which tomatoes,
    green peppers, carrots, peas, lettuce and cucumbers were grown. Even though it
    was done on a small scale this year, 5 families have received the benefits of the
    fresh produce. Staff also participated with the Lewis County Chamber of
    Commerce at the Lewis County Fair, the Spring Break event in Croghan, and will
    be participating in the upcoming National Night Out in Lewis County on
    September 11th. Ms. Hughes is an active member on the CCSI/Systems of Care
    Lewis County Community Focus Group and the facility is an active member
    agency of the Lewis County Priorities Council. Ms. Hughes has also been
    scheduled for many presentations with the next one being September 9 at the
    Beaver Falls Methodist Church.

    The future at Croghan Adult Care Facility looks bright.

    "As I speak, I am in process of filling out an application to expand our hopes and
    dreams at Croghan Adult Care Facility by offering possibly a 4 bed 2 boarding
    Adult Type Family Home," Ms. Hughes told us. "We are in the beginning stages
    of this and cannot comment any further, although if anyone has any interest in
    this please call us," she continued.

    members need it," she concluded.
