York State Police responded to a call on Tannery Lane in the Town of Croghan at 11:37 this morning for an eleven-year-old boy who was reported as missing, and later found. Dispatch reports indicated that the boy left to go fishing on a portion of the Beaver River on the property and had not been seen for approximately twenty minutes. His kayak was reported as still on the shore and he was reported to have a life vest on originally. Family at the scene were unsure what direction he may have went or if he was in the water according to dispatch. Croghan Fire Department was placed on standby at their station for a potential water rescue, if needed. At 11:56 deputies reported an update to dispatchers, indicating that the youth had not been seen for upwards of an hour and it was unclear if he was actually wearing his life vest, reporting he still had not been located. New York State DEC and Encon units were requested to assist with the search at the scene, which included a heavily wooded area as well a portion of the Beaver River. The boy was reported as located by a third party at 12:04 and was said to be safe and secure. DEC and Encon unit response was cancelled and the scene has since been cleared. No further details were available at this time. |
