yesterday, with one match-up seeing the defending State Class "D" Champions, the Copenhagen Lady Golden Knights, travelling to Harrisville to take on the Lady Pirates. Copenhagen will once again play in the Frontier League "B" division this season, a move credited with helping them prepare for a State title run against class "D" schools last season. Copenhagen has lost a key player and State Class "D" MVP Claire Stackel to graduation, but returns seniors Maci Spaulding, Ashley Gardener and goalie Hope Woodruff, as they look to repeat last years success. On Tuesday,the Lady Knights were led by three goals from Alexandra Greene and two from Maci Spaulding, knocking off Harrisville by a score of 6-0. Katie Best also found the net for Copenhagen, while Hope Woodruff had one save in goal. Elsewhere in soccer action yesterday: BOYS Sackets Harbor 3 Copenhagen 2 Watertown IHC 7 South Lewis 0 Lowville 0 Watertown 0 Season Openers for Remaining Lewis County Teams: The Lowville girls will open their season today with a match at Watertown. Beaver River girls open their season at home Friday against Thousand Islands and South Lewis girls will open Friday at home versus Sandy Creek. On the boys side, South Lewis and Beaver River will be open on the road on Thursday with South Lewis travelling to Sandy Creek/Pulaski and Beaver River taking on Thousand Islands. |
