Lewis County Board of Elections officials have tallied the write-

in ballots in a pair of Port Leyden positions for which there were no candidates.

Heather Collins received 21 votes to give her the office of Mayor, which she

currently holds.

There were two openings on the Village Board of Trustees. Pete Kraeger

easily won one seat on election night as the only candidate on the ballot. The

second seat was to be determined by a write in. There were two names which

received 13 votes each, Fred McCauley & Peter Smith. Since it is a tie the

Board of Elections is certifying this as a “failure to elect”, and the village may

seek advice from their attorney on how to proceed.
