    Lowville, NY- Lewis County Night Out, previously known as National Night
    Out for the past four years in Lewis County, will be taking place from 6 PM -
    8:30PM this Thursday, September 8th, at the Lewis County Fairgrounds in
    Lowville.

    The annual event is an evening that brings the community together with local
    law enforcement and crime and drug prevention  agencies, with activities,
    information booths and demonstrations. The main goal of the event is to
    heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, with a focus on generating
    support and participation in crime prevention efforts. The event is sponsored by
    the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Lewis County Youth Bureau, Lewis County
    Opportunities, Inc. and Northern Regional Center for Independent Living,

    The night will kick off at 6 PM with an opening ceremony, where a local
    Prevention Awareness Agency will be recognized for their contributions to the
    community, and a moment of silence will be observed in remembrance of the
    September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The event was held on September 11 the
    past four years, but with that date falling on a Sunday this year, organizers
    decided to change the date.

    Demonstrations by the New York State Police and Lewis County Sheriff's
    Office K9 Narcotic Search & Apprehension units, the New York State DEC and
    Forest Rangers will begin at 7 PM. Weather permitting, a Life Net helicopter
    will also be on hand.

    The evening will have lots of activities for area youth. The Lewis County
    Humane Society will be handing out rubber dog noses for kids, and McGruff
    the Crime Dog will be on site. The Lowville Police Department will have a booth
    to process Safe Child ID Cards. Free hot dogs, soda and water will be
    available through Lamont's Food Fair.

    A list of agencies that will be on hand, as well as door prizes is included below.
    The entire community is encouraged to come out for a great!
