Many Local Positions on the Ballot in Lewis County This Year

Lowville, NY-

The 2021 election process will soon be underway locally,

with interested candidates able to begin collecting petition signatures for

major party nominations starting on March 2.

With no state or federal positions up for election this year, the focus will be

on the many local positions on the ballot.

In Lewis County, all ten of the seats on the county legislature will be up for

election.

Each of the 17 townships in Lewis County will have town council seats on

the ballot, in addition to village trustee seats up for election in each of the

four villages that run their elections through the Lewis County Board of

Elections.

Every town, with the exceptions of Diana and New Bremen, will be electing

a town supervisor. The town clerk and/or tax collector position will be on the

ballot in all towns except Croghan, Diana, Lowville and New Bremen.

Superintendent of highways will be up for election in every town except

Croghan, Lowville and New Bremen. Residents in the towns of Lowville,

Lyonsdale, Martinsburg, New Bremen and Watson will also be electing a

town justice. The position of mayor will be on the ballot in the villages of

Constableville, Lyons Falls and Port Leyden.

Potential candidates for the major parties can begin collecting signatures on

March 2. Completed designating petitions must be filed with the Lewis

County Board of Elections between March 22 and March 25. Independent

candidates may begin their signature collections on April 13. The filing

period for independent petitions will be from May 18 through May 25.

The 2021 Primary Election, if needed, is scheduled for June 22. The

General Election will be held on November 2.
