Lowville Ice Rink Plans to Open for the
Season on December 26 With Restrictions

    Press Release from Lowville Town/Village Recreation Commission:

    The Town and Village of Lowville Ice Skating Rink expects to open for the
    season after Christmas.

    Rink organizers expect to officially open on Saturday, December 26, at 1 p.m. in
    the Lewis County Fair Grounds Pavilion. The preparations are underway with the
    first layer of ice being poured. A new chiller system has been installed.

    **UPDATE: Due to weather conditions and delays with the new chiller
    system the opening of the rink has been delayed until 12:00 noon on
    Monday, December 28, 2020.**

    Unexpected installation delays or inclement weather could change the opening
    date.

    Officials will require anyone using the ice-skating rink to adhere to strict Covid-19
    restrictions:

    1. Everyone will be required to wear a mask at all times

    2. All persons will answer COVID screening questions before entering the
    pavilion

    3. No more than 50 people will be allowed in the pavilion at any one time.
    This includes skaters and spectators. Wrist bands will be issued on a first
    come first serve basis.

    4. Social distance measures will be enforced to include no group skating.
    Spectators must remain 6 feet apart.

    5. The locker room will be closed. Skates will still be available. A bench will
    be provided outside for skaters.

    6. No more than two people in the restroom at a time.

    The ice rink will be open during the school weeks, to include school vacations.
    To avoid any confusion, if school closes due to a snow day, the ice rink will be
    closed too.

    We can still participate in community events during this pandemic, but we all
    need to do so safely. The restrictions are non-negotiable. Everyone must follow
    the rules, or the rink will be forced to close.

    The opening of the rink is due to the work and cooperation of the Lewis County
    Agricultural Society, Lewis County Hockey Association, Town and Village of
    Lowville Recreation Commission and the County of Lewis.
