Grant Program Submission Opens July 15

    The State Farm Neighborhood Assist program will begin accepting submissions
    at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, for the 9th annual grant award program. Area
    causes are encouraged to apply. Locally, the Lowville Food Pantry was a
    recipient of one of the $25,000 Neighborhood Assist grants in 2017.

    The following is information from State Farm on this year's program:

    Neighborhood Assist aims to help identify key issues faced by citizens throughout
    the United States. Whether it’s a literacy initiative, social injustice efforts or a
    food program for low-income students, you or someone you know could be the
    catalyst for positive change in your community.

    New in 2020:

    In a typical year, the program had three categories: Education, Safety, and
    Community Development.  Cause submitters had to choose one as part of their
    application. Considering community needs may have changed and increased
    during these challenging times, we decided to eliminate the category requirement
    this year. This action will free up communities to submit causes to address their
    greatest needs.

    Timeline:

    The submission phase opens on July 15  at 1 p.m. EST on
    www.neighborhoodassist.com and closes once we receive 2,000 applications.  
    Anyone living in the U.S., 18 years old or older, is eligible to apply (individuals,
    nonprofit organizations, schools, etc.), including agents, team members and
    employees.  One submission per person.  Please note, it’s best to submit
    early, since a maximum of 2,000 submissions will be accepted.  During
    the last two years, we received 2,000 applications in under 24 hours.  In
    the interest of fairness and accessibility, grantees are not eligible to win more
    than twice consecutively.

    The application is short and simple. Here are the questions applicants will be
    asked to answer:

  • What’s the name of your cause?
  • Mission statement
  • How much does your cause focus on an unmet need in your community?
  • Why do you feel the $25,000 grant would address the unmet need?
  • How much of a lasting impact on this community would the proposal make?

    After the submission phase ends, a State Farm Review Committee will read and
    narrow down the submissions to 200 finalists. Once identified, the top 200
    causes will appear on www.neighborhoodassist.com to be voted on by the
    public. The voting phase is September 23 – October 2, with each voter allowed
    ten votes per day. The 40 causes with the most votes each receive a $25,000
    grant with awards totaling $1 Million. Winners will be announced November 4.  If
    an individual who is not affiliated with an organization wins a grant, a nonprofit
    will be matched to help run the program.
