Lewis County Jail Suspends Jail Visits as Precautionary Measure

March 12, 2020   12:15 p.m.      Updated: May 14, 2020   09:00 am By: Nick Altmire
Lowville, NY- The Lewis County Sheriff's Office has temporarily suspended
visitation at the Lewis County Jail until further notice. The office will monitor the
situation and make any changes as needed.

The move is effective immediately and was implemented under an extreme
abundance of caution as the spread of the COVID-19 virus continues to rise both
nationally and in New York State. The policy was implemented through the
advisement of Jail Physician Dr. David Rosner, according to Undersheriff Jason
    McIntosh.

There are currently no confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county.

Similar measures have been implemented at the Jefferson County Jail and the
    St. Lawrence County Jail.
