Lewis County Declares State of Emergency in Response to COVID-19
March 16, 2020 12:00 p.m.
**Lewis County has declared a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 virus. Officials had scheduled a press conference for 11 AM to discuss the declaration, update the status of tests performed in the county and other COVID- 19 related topics. After our arrival officials decided to postpone the press conference to an unspecified time (late this afternoon possibly) as new guidance was coming in from NYS on the closure of bars, restaurants and a reduction in local government staffing. We agreed those topics needed to be addressed as well and could still be at a later time, but we still wanted to proceed with the other topics so as to not overwhelm people with large dumps of information at one time. Officials ultimately decided to postpone the press briefing, but did provide a statement (which is included below.) Currently there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Lewis County. Five individuals have been tested, with three tests returned with a negative result and two results pending. We'll continue to update this evolving situation as more information becomes available.**
