| Lowville Girls Advance in Section III Basketball Tournament Along With Beaver River and Copenhagen Boys February 22, 2020 11:30 a.m. By: Nick Altmire |

Opening round action in the Section III High School Basketball Tournaments kicked off for local schools on Friday night. In Class B girls action, No. 8 Lowville defeated No. 9 Cazenovis 58-53 in Lowville. Sara Wood led the way for Lowville with 17 points, with Anna Wood scoring 12, Emma Dening adding 11 and Sydney Brown with 10. Lowville advances to the quarterfinal round and will face either No. 1 Oneida or No. 16 Holland Patent on Wednesday, February 26. On the boys side, three Lewis County teams took to the hardwood on Friday night for a first round game. In Class C, No. 6 Beaver River handily beat No. 11 Sherburne-Earlville by a score of 60-32 in Beaver Falls. Beaver River will face No. 3 West Canada Valley in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 26. West Canda Valley advanced with an 87-57 win over No. 14 South Lewis on Friday night. In Class D boys action, No. 5 Copenhagen advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 73-36 win over Manlius Pebble Hill. Keegan Morrow led the way for Copenhagen with 22 points, with Lucas Graves adding 21. Copenhagen will face No. 13 Brookfield in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 25. Brookfield advanced with a 55-51 upset win over No. 4 Hamilton. Two local teams had byes in the first round. In boys Class B, top seed Lowville will begin their tournament play this afternoon with a game against No. 16 Camden. The game is set to tipoff at 2 p.m. in Lowville. The winner will advance to take on No. 8 Cazenovia in a quarterfinal game at a date and time to be determined. In girls Class D, No. 3 Copenhagen will play their first game on Tuesday, February 25, taking on No. 6 Madison in a quarterfinal game set for 7 p. m. in Copenhagen. |
