| Candidates Seeking Local Office in 2020 Can Begin Collecting Designating Petition Signatures Today February 25, 2020 03:30 p.m. By: Nick Altmire |
today being the first day for interested candidates to begin collecting designating petition signatures to run for office. With the main focus of 2020 being on federal level races for President and our representative for Congress, there still are a few local positions up for election in November. Potential candidates can begin collecting signatures for their designating petitions beginning today, February 25. Petitions then need to be submitted to the Lewis County Board of Elections between March 30 and April 2. Becoming a Candidate: Local Offices to be Filled in General Election 2020: Town of Harrisburg: Town Justice Town of Lewis: Town Clerk (to fill vacancy through 12/31/21) Town of Lyonsdale: Town Council, 1 seat (to fill vacancy through 12/31/21) Town of Montague: Town Justice; Town Council, 1 seat (to fill vacancy through 12/31/23) Town of Pinckney: Town Justice Town of Turin: Town Supervisor (to fill vacancy through 12/31/21) Town Council, 1 seat (to fill vacancy through 12/31/23) Town of West Turin: Town Justice Village of Constableville: Village Trustee, 2 seats Village of Croghan: Mayor Village Trustee, 2 seats Village of Lyons Falls: Mayor Village Trustee, 2 seats Village of Port Leyden: Village Trustee, 2 seats Also up for election locally are three state level positions, including our representatives to the NYS Senate and NYS Assembly and a Justice of the Supreme Court for the 5th Judicial District. 2020 Election Dates:
