| Video: 11th Annual Lewis County 'Shop With A Cop' December 07, 2019 12:00 p.m. By: Nick Altmire |
Walmart in Lowville this morning, each paired with a child for the 11th Annual 'Shop With a Cop' program. The program, organized by Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eric Schmitt, helps brighten the holidays for some area children, by providing them an opportunity to go shopping for anything they want (with a provided gift card) and spending the morning with emergency personnel. In Lewis County, police agencies team up with local fire and ambulance squads, the DEC, Forest Rangers, and other agencies for the event. This year, Lewis County Probation Department and NYS Courts Security Officer's participated for the first time, bringing a total of 16 participating agencies. After all of the shopping, the group meets back at the Lowville Fire Hall for a pizza party with the children and their families. Some video of the arrival at Walmart is included below (starts around 2 minute mark), after a short interview with Sgt. Schmitt discussing this year's event: |
