Video: Lewis County General Cuts Ribbon at New
Designated Helicopter Landing Zone With Ceremonial First Landing

October 29, 2019   05:30 p.m.   By: Nick Altmire
Lowville, NY- Local officials were on hand today at Lewis County General
Hospital for a ribbon cutting and ceremonial first landing at the new Designated
Helicopter Landing Zone on the hospital's campus.

Planning for the project began in August, with work at the site starting just after.
Site modifications included removing trees, installing electricity, fencing, lighting,
seal coating and the addition of appropriate markings.

According to hospital CEO Jerry Cayer, the new Helicopter Landing Zone will
reduce the time for medical evacuation by approximately 30 minutes, noting that
one third of all medical evacuations in Lewis County occur at the hospital.

The Helicopter Landing Zone was moved from the former Climax location just up
the street, with the new location allowing the ability for the helicopter to land
without requiring local police, fire and EMS resources.

The project was made possible by generous donations from Lewis County
Hospital Foundation and Elizabeth A. Woods- in memory of her husband John B.
    Woods.

You can see our full video from the short ceremony below, including the first
helicopter landing at the site by Mercy Flight and the unveiling of a plaque
    thanking the donors.
